Waterworks Museum

It is housed in the historical building known as the Old Pump House belonging to Thessaloniki Water Supply and Sewage Company (EYATh), constructed in late 19th century and has been classified as a “preserved monument”. At the Museum’s restored buildings organized tours for students and individuals are offered, where they can get acquainted with the living history of water supply in Thessaloniki: motor machinery and electricity generators, old electricity circuit switchboards and pumping units that had been supplying with water the city up until 1978. The main hall displays the old steam-powered units with the pump, showing how stream was produced to drive the steam engines in the pump house. Furthermore, a full reconstruction of the 19th century built-in boiler room is exhibited, as well as, old equipment, water supply network measurement instruments, water meters and tools used by the repair crews. Together with the permanent exhibitions, the Museum hosts periodical ones as well, in close collaboration with other organizations and institutions of Thessaloniki.
