Monastery of Panagia (Virgin) Soumela
Sacred center of Pontian Hellenism worldwide, the Monastery of Panagia Soumela near Veria, is a religious pilgrimage. In 1952, the miraculous image of the Virgin, which according to the tradition of the Orthodox Church is the work of the Apostle and Evangelist Luke, was transferred to the monastery. Every year on August 15, feast of Our Lady, thousands of visitors from all over Greece, flock to Monastery of Panagia Soumela to worship and watch the events held in the area.
